Our Global Vision

Imagine a teacher in a small village in Africa turning her iPad on and pulling up directions and lessons for teaching writing to the many students in her class? The writing unit has been downloaded and stored on her device and guides her through daily, weekly, and monthly writing units. When she and other teachers in her county or province have questions, need guidance, and professional development, they contact Our World Literacy and plan a virtual webinar or connect through email for more support.

Did You Know?

Did you know that although many children around the world attend school daily, they may not be developing the literacy skills they need to succeed during their academic years and later when they join the 21st century work place? The ability to read and write well lead the way out of poverty, support better health, and fulfillment of one’s purpose and potential in life. In developing countries where teachers do not have access to curriculum guides and students do not have access to reading materials and textbooks, they may be able to access mobile networks. By providing materials that can be downloaded on digital devices through mobile networks, Our World Literacy seeks to help teachers and students wherever they are to receive a quality education.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide access to literacy knowledge by sharing curriculum guides, lessons, and digital support for the teaching of reading and writing for all people in all corners of the planet so they may rise above poverty and fulfill their life’s dreams.

Who We Are

patricia-jacobs-phd

Dr. Patricia Jacobs has taught English language arts at the elementary, middle, high school, and university level in diverse settings both in the United States and overseas. Her global perspective instilled in her a love of literacy and sharing her passion with teachers and students in settings all over the world.

In the summer of 2015, Dr. Jacobs travelled to Haiti to participate in a Teachers Summer Institute in Croix des Bouquets. While working with teachers during two courses she taught: Teaching Writing through Personal Stories and Strategies for Reading Comprehension in Content Area Subjects, she became inspired to share her expertise with teachers and students in developing countries across the globe. She began to create curriculum guides and lessons that could be accessed digitally on iPad devices anywhere a mobile network is available. As she continues to develop materials, she imagines teachers in any type of setting being able to use her literacy lessons to support reading comprehension, content area learning, and the writing and sharing of personal stories.
